Internet Advertising

Ever since the internet became popular, some other forms of advertisements have been going downhill.  I have been to several debates about how the Internet is taking over and like items such as newspapers will be irrelevant in the near future.  Advertising online is becoming a must for businesses, especially for the younger generation.  In my past experience, I have found that teenagers are exposed to the Internet much more than newspapers.  This is why advertising is changing throughout the Internet world and I believe that it is a great thing.

Facebook and Google are starting to change their advertising techniques.  They are changing the formats for their ads.  Google is now using Web-based circular ads which make the ads on the Internet look more like the ads in the Sunday paper.  The font and pictures are much bigger to be able to catch the viewer’s attention.  Facebook will be adding to their new ads as well by promoting ads that are recommended by their user’s “friends.”  If a friend “liked” a certain brand then it will allow them to see the comments of the advertisement.

Ads are expanding.  There are so many different types of ads that need to be changed with each different social media.  Businesses need to realize that the Internet is a great place to put advertisement but it is a hard place to get the viewer’s attention.  It is important to have new and eye-catching items in your advertisements.  The world of creative advertisement needs to keep growing with each new idea.  We will have to see what new idea Facebook or Google comes up with next!

  1. It is interesting to think about how advertising is changing right before our eyes. I agree that the internet is becoming an important place to advertise to the younger generations. In my experience on Facebook, I've been receiving ads that connect to my profile. I used to think it was scary that the ads related directly to me, but now I think it's convenient and am responding to them more often. I do think it's important for businesses to embrace advertising online because, let's face it, the internet is not going away any time soon!

  2. I find it interesting that Google is making ads look similar to those of the Sunday paper. That is something that I have not noticed. Also, that Google uses your past interests to create ads on the site that are customized to you. I have noticed lately that I have ads on the side for Halloween costumes because a few weeks ago I searched that on the web, so it pops up every time I search for a new site. It is crazy to think how the web is monitoring what we do to create ads of our interest. Especially since Facebook is looking to create them due to what you "liked." There are millions of things you can "like" on Facebook, so it will be interesting to see how they go about this.
